What excites you about your job?

Ever since I was little, I never understood why girls weren’t allowed to play football or baseball alongside boys. I was blessed with role models who taught me to break down barriers and be that woman in a male-dominated field. Even though I was from a disadvantaged family, the opportunity arose to attend Northern Arizona University on a full scholarship. I completed my complementary degree in business management, interior design, graphic design and construction management. During my studies, I was able to become a project manager for a wonderful construction company in Flagstaff. I was very lucky that the owner supported a young but strong 19 year old woman to work alongside the crew and predominantly male contractors. Later, a friend took me to her graphic design and printing business and I was able to create my Artitexture business card, promote my writing skills to her clients. She also encouraged me to start my own interior design business.

How was Dark Sky Brewing Co. born?

My husband, and partner in life, came up with the idea of opening a brewery when he was a home brewer. The idea of creating our own community taproom space intrigued me. Dark Sky Brewing Company took shape in 2014 with the idea of creating a café-style space where people could work, create ideas, organize community events and gather. We opened with the goal of selling six pints an hour on our tiny three-barrel micro-brewery system. Our opening night was packed for six hours and we had to close for two weeks to recuperate and make more beer! We love to brew beer for the city that loves to drink it!
