A local nonprofit and a brewery raise funds together

“Blind ambition” is the new beer from ETX Brewing Company. A German peach kolsch inspired by Lighthouse for the Blind.

TYLER, Texas — ETX Brewing Company has created a special beer in conjunction with local nonprofit Lighthouse for the Blind.

Dubbed “blind ambition”, this new peach kolsch was unveiled today and will be ready to try this Saturday.

“We’re grateful they liked the idea and we moved forward,” said Craig Ellis, community relations administrator for LFTB. “This is what we have been waiting for for six months.”

After half a year of waiting, customers will finally be able to taste the new beer but “blind ambition” belies its name because it’s for a good cause.

“We’re actually going to be getting some of the proceeds from all day,” said Alicia Lansford, vice president and head of mission for LFTB. “This money will go directly back into our programming.”

So what went into creating this special brew?

“What we brew here is real ale,” said Brian Gilstrap, co-owner of ETX Brewing Company. “Real beer means you have real ingredients, so we use real peaches. We took an immersion blender and spent hours macerating those peaches and adding them directly to the beer. That’s what really brings out those peach flavors.”

So if you’re feeling good this Saturday and want to help out LFTB, be sure to stop by. Some proceeds will help our visually impaired neighbors like Ellis.

“I’ve been legally blind for 14 years,” Ellis said. “Thanks to the training I received at the lighthouse, I am one of those people who have regained my independence. I have regained my self-esteem and I am able to have these goals and dreams.”

ETX Brewing Company will host LFTB from 2-6 p.m. to provide more information about the association.
