The Brewers Association (BA) is pleased to announce that Alan Windhausen has joined the Beer Quality Basics workshop team as a Quality Trainer. Windhausen will work with current Quality Instructor Lauren Torres and Quality Trainer Melissa Antone to deliver eight Quality Workshops in different regions of the United States in 2019.
Prior to joining the BA Beer Quality Basics Workshop team, Windhausen graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology with a BS in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Science. economy. From there he moved to Alaska to earn a master’s degree in teaching at the University of Alaska Southeast, working in rural schools while flying for the Civil Air Patrol, before entering the Master Brewers program at UC Davis. Alan worked in the craft beer industry in Wynkoop Brewery and Hangar 24 Craft Brewing and was the lead brewer at Pikes Peak Brewery. Alan is currently Head Brewer at Holiday Brewing Company, Colorado’s gluten-free brewery. In each role, he worked to improve the quality culture and expand the brewery’s quality programs.
“Beer, science and teaching have always been my passions,” Windhausen said. “I am very happy to combine them by joining this team of exceptional educators and quality assurance professionals. I look forward to helping bring this valuable lab experience to BA members across the country.
The Beer Quality Basics Workshop is a full-day hands-on course that covers the fundamentals of brewing microbiology and physical analysis commonly used for quality assurance in small breweries. Each workshop is hosted by a craft brewery or university and allows participants to interact directly with equipment and materials under the guidance of experienced instructors.
