The owner of Harpoon Brewery will soon expand its presence in Vermont when it completes the purchase of the Long Trail Brewing Company, the company announced Friday.
Mass. Bay Brewing Company – the Boston-based, worker-owned brewer of Harpoon and UFO Beer – said that after conversations with Long Trail about a potential partnership, “it became clear that we would be stronger together”.
“We have a deep respect for craft beer brewed in Vermont and are excited to deepen our already strong roots in Green Mountain State as we acquire Long Trail,” said Harpoon CEO and Co-Founder, Dan Kenary.
Harpoon will keep Long Trail’s Riverside Pub in Bridgewater Corners, Vermont open, but will begin brewing Long Trail and its other beers — Otter Creek and Shed — at Harpoon’s Brewery in Windsor, Vermont.
WhistlePig Whiskey – a Shoreham, Vermont company that has previously partnered with Harpoon – will take over the Otter Creek and Shed brewery in Middlebury and soon convert the facility’s production to a bottling and distilling operation , said Kenary.

Meanwhile, Harpoon will continue to operate the Otter Creek Brewing Pub and Beer Garden, located at the Middlebury Brewery.
“We have a shared commitment to the Vermont community and a passion for making great beer,” Kenary said. “I speak for all employee owners of Mass. Bay Brewing Company when I say we look forward to the opportunity to carry on the legacy of Long Trail.”
