Ken Grossman started Sierra Nevada in 1980 with a craft brewery and the odds were stacked against him. Get to know this role
Quality Lab Tech 2 is responsible for performing routine testing and analysis of products and processes throughout the brewery. Technicians at this level should be passionate and involved in making great beer and delivering the highest quality Sierra Nevada experience.
What will you do
* Accurately analyze in-process and finished products, appropriately escalate out-of-specification findings/trends, and initiate corrective action
* Maintain product quality by adhering to good manufacturing practices, product specifications and quality procedures; perform tasks thoroughly and accurately to ensure quality standards are met
* Participate in production processes (brewing and packaging), providing superior internal customer service; isolate and contain product that does not meet quality standards
* Lead quality and seek to protect and elevate the brand at all times
* Calibrate, maintain and repair equipment to ensure instruments are operational and reliable
* Proactively identify and prioritize improvements that drive quality and minimize waste and inefficiency without compromising or missing the daily needs of the quality department
* Shift comfortably and adapt to change; make timely and considered decisions; is not upset when things are upside down
* Communicate effectively between departments and time zones; provide concise, organized and comprehensive information/recommendations
Please apply if you have
* Bachelor’s degree in science, analytical or food-related discipline or any combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities were acquired required
*Previous lab experience preferred and
* Previous experience in a brewery or manufacturing environment preferred
* The ideal candidate will have experience in some or all of the following areas:
+ Food/beverage microbiology
+ Quality and integrity testing of glass and packaging materials
+ Development and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
+ Food/beverage sanitation and chemical hygiene
+ Independent work and teamwork
+ gas chromatography
+ Workflow optimization
+ Root cause analysis or other complex problem solving techniques
+ Statistical Process Control (SPC)
+ HACCP, internal audits and good manufacturing practices (FSMA, cGMP)
+ Design of Experiment (DOE)
* Data analysis and communication skills
* Ability to organize and prioritize work
* Must understand Good Laboratory Practices
* Ability to follow test protocols and tests
Additional requirements to consider before applying
* You must be at least 21 years old to work for Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
* Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment and post-offer background check.
* Candidate must be able to work rotating shifts. Shifts rotate monthly (4:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.)
