Get to know this role

The Sensory Technician will perform routine testing and evaluation of company ingredients and products through production release, description (profile) and discrimination (triangle test), alignment of flavors and new product panels. This role is primarily responsible for collecting samples, tracking inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized laboratory.

What will you do

  • Independently collect samples (water, fermenter, clear beer, packaging, bubbling and grains) from a production environment while adhering to good safety practices
  • Implements shelf life product draws to support new product/process development
  • Daily implementation and assistance in the animation of sensory sessions including: production launch, description (profile) and discrimination (triangular test), alignment of flavors and panels of new products
  • Promotes good lab hygiene by maintaining cleanliness, dishwasher operation, temperature tracking, draw line rinsing, organization and documentation
  • Supports and works with cross-functional teams represented on sensory panels
  • Pays attention to detail and provides accuracy when entering and reviewing sensory results
  • Develops systems and works to find efficiencies by presenting ideas in an appropriate manner to management
  • Additional duties may include leading panels, administering training, writing basic sensory reports, or other duties that reasonably fall within the scope of this description

  • Associate’s degree preferred or
  • or a combination of equivalent education and experience. mandatory
  • 6 months of laboratory experience in the food or beverage industry preferred
  • 6 months of experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) preferred
  • 6 months experience in beer tasting (BJCP, cicerone) preferred
  • Willingness to learn sensory evaluation techniques and basic statistics
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to draft business correspondence and standard operating procedures
  • Organized, detail-oriented and maintains effective time management
  • Enthusiastic, curious and generally a quick learner
  • Professional conduct and positively influence cross-functional teams
  • Must be a team player, ready to help when needed
  • Able to maintain a positive attitude while multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a strong passion for brewing and beer
