Benefiting the non-profit organization Friends of Pima Animal Care Center (PACC)
Barrio Brewery is causing a stir with its Barks & Brews dog wash event, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, October 23.
As if you and your favorite furry friend needed another reason to stop by this local dog-loving brewery, this Sunday the Barks & Brews crew will refresh your pup while you sit back and enjoy a delicious Barrio beer.

Barks & Brews is in its second year of cleaning contaminated canines to benefit the nonprofit Friends of Pima Animal Care Center (PACC). Dog washes are priced based on the size of the dog, with small dogs costing $15 and large dogs ringing in at $25. You can even add dog nail clipping for $10 per pup.
All proceeds from this event go directly to Friends of PACC, which supports the animal shelter’s efforts to save the lives of animals in need.
“Friends of PACC will be bringing in a handful of their own workers to help set up and register the dogs, and they’ll be bringing in a vet tech to do the nail clippings,” explained Cydney Mahieubartender and brewery ambassador at Barrio Brewing Company.

The Chi Omega sorority will also volunteer with Friends of PACC to help wash the dog.
“I believe I can speak for our employees when I say we are big dog lovers,” Mahieu said. “Most of us have our own dogs, especially rescued or adopted ones, so this event means a lot to us.”
For all the fence-jumping dogs, this year’s Barks & Brews event has a special service to help keep an eye on escape artist pets.
“This will be the first Barks & Brews event where Friends of PACC is offering a free microchip with a paid dog wash,” Mahieu said. Microchipping will be done on-site at the Barrio Brewing Company on a first-come, first-chip basis.
After all the chafing bubbles (and bubbly pints), the puppies and their people are sure to work up an appetite. To meet this need, Barrio Brewing Company put together a special menu that really went dog-friendly.

“We have a dog menu that includes bacon, turkey slices, chicken breast, and a burger patty that we give to our furry friends,” Mahieu said.
Fido and Fluffy can snack happily while pet owners feast on burgers, salads and sandwiches. Barrio Brewing Company also graciously donates a percentage of Barks & Brews Day sales revenue to the nonprofit Friends of PACC, so order those Barrio beer fries you’ve been craving too.

Barrio Brewing Company’s puppy love extends far beyond dog washing and smart canine nibbling. The brewery also has a PACC donation box on-site at the brewery, where generous animal lovers can donate items from the PACC “Most Needed” list.
These elements include:
- Nylabones and Kong Toys (new)
- Collars, harnesses and leashes of all sizes (new or slightly used)
- Original American Treats, Food, Toys and Bones (New)
- Pet beds (new or slightly used)
- Towels and small blankets (new or slightly used)
For every five of these specific items donated, customers will receive a beer nickel from their bartender, good for a 5-cent Barrio beer. Customers can earn up to two beer nickels a day by donating ten or more of these items. The collection of items for PACC is ongoing and is not limited to the day of the Barks & Brews event.

For a little fun, and reiterating the saying “dogs match their owners,” I asked Mahieu if she could recommend any beers from the Barrio Brewing Company that would go best with dog breeds. specific.
“I have to say that the Viva Vienna Lagerour Oktoberfest beer would fit a Daschund…a sausage dog,” she said. “The next would be Mocha Java Stout. I would pair him with a Corgi. Our stout is a bit sweet, while Corgis are sturdy and sweet puppies. Finally, our Rae’s Ruby Red IPA paired with Clifford the Big Red Dog – like the sweet and tangy flavors of our Ruby red IPA, Clifford is a very gentle and kind dog, but often finds himself in troubling or sour situations due to his large size. Big dog, big flavor.
Anyone else drooling?
If you can’t attend this Sunday’s Barks & Brews event, Barrio Brewing Company is proud to host Barks & Brews twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. However, you should probably clean up your dirty dog before the next one.
