Job Summary: The Compensation and Benefits Specialist coordinates employee compensation and benefits programs, ensuring that the salary program is fair and competitive, that employees are paid accurately, and that the wide range of compensation programs is benefits are managed efficiently and in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. regulations and standards. Essential duties and responsibilities of the position:

Specifically, job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer employee insurance programs, including life, disability and health insurance plans
  • Administer the company’s 401(k) plan
  • Advise and inform employees of changes and developments related to benefits, including eligibility, coverage and provisions
  • Facilitate accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to insurers, plan administrators or other appropriate service providers
  • Assist in the selection of carriers and plans based on quotes, available benefits and previous experience
  • Monitor reports from administrators and insurance companies to ensure the organization’s compliance with plan requirements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA and ERISA
  • Maintain knowledge of economic conditions, labor market and other related factors to ensure that the organization offers competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation scales and structures; recommend improvements if necessary
  • Ensure employee records and payroll entries are accurate and kept up to date, reports are prepared in a timely manner, the annual merit process is managed accurately and efficiently, and sensitive employee data is protected adequately
  • Assist with payroll functions; process garnishments, update deduction changes, and perform timecard review at the end of the pay period and payroll review prior to processing
  • Participate in classification audits to ensure jobs are properly classified as exempt or non-exempt
  • Complete records, reports, and other documents required by federal, state, and vendor rules, regulations, and policies
  • Collect and compile HR metrics and data from a variety of sources including Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and payroll results, management and employee surveys, exit interviews, employment records, government labor statistics, competitor practices and other sources
  • Prepare reports on data results, present and explain results to senior management
  • Work with HRBP on FMLA/CFRA requests, ADA lodging requests, and other leave requests
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience, or equivalent training and experience
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred, or ability to achieve certification within one year
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of employee benefits and compensation and applicable labor laws
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of 401(k), COBRA, HIPPA and ERISA requirements
  • Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnostics, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and respective federal and state employment laws
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to maintain confidentiality, quick learner, strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Proficiency and experience with online HRIS systems
