JW Marriott San Antonio and Freetail Brewing Company invade new ‘Bee-r’

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa and Freetail Brewing Company have teamed up to colonize a new “bee” the two properties have partnered to create, called Hill Country Honey Blonde. The unique honeycomb design of the beer can and tap handle were also revealed.

The food and beverage team at JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa and Freetail Brewing Company have joined forces for beer planning and development. The resort team provided the honey used in the Hill Country Honey Blonde brewing process. The honey was produced by the resort’s on-site hives located in a protected and remote location on the 600-acre property. The catering team and culinary gardener at JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa are tasked with harvesting honey from hives and providing regional bees with the home they need to thrive. The sweet addition of honey to the new beer product makes the taste unique and savory, while adding a local, organic delight from the Hill Country region.

“We look forward to offering this unique and refreshing beer made with honey harvested right here on resort property by our staff,” said Adam Tyler, Food and Beverage Manager at JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. “Working with Freetail Brewing Company has been a great experience, and we’re thrilled to see the design of the beer cans and faucet handles come to fruition on what I know to be a quality product.”

Freetail Brewing Company actively raises awareness of wildlife conservation through the development of its products. The brewery, whose name and logo are inspired by the Mexican free-tailed bat, actively promotes conservation efforts around the world through its partnership with the San Antonio Zoo. Through its Conserveza brand, Freetail takes a portion of the revenue from each drop sold and donates it to the zoo’s conservation fund. Freetail is proud to have helped rescue and repopulate many species. By using honey from the hives of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, Freetail Brewing Company stays true to its mission of raising awareness of the importance of bees in our ecosystem. Bees play many vital roles, including pollinating the food people need to survive and many trees and flowers that provide habitats for wildlife.

“At Freetail, we’ve always believed that our community is the most important part of why we do what we do. We’ve always worked hard to build the community around us and help make San Antonio a better place. and it all starts with our little corner of the world. Says Bill Sisoian, President of Freetail Brewing. “Our motto is ‘Hang With A Local’ and that includes bats and bees and all the other elements of the nature that surrounds us and drives us all forward.By collaborating with the JW Marriott and their apiary, we are able to put some of that Texas goodness into every drop of Hill Country Honey Blonde and really let our plot of land shine. and the community that surrounds it.The warmth and just a touch of sweetness of Hill Country Honey Blonde truly epitomizes the Texas Hill Country and its people.

Hill Country Honey Blonde is a tasty, yet easy-drinking beer brewed with Texas wildflowers and dry-fermented bush honey with an alcohol content of 5.1%. Filled with aromas of wildflowers, desert flowers and a subtle malt finish, this beer is a thirst quencher for fun in the Texas sun or sipping on a back porch. It goes well with grilled meats, pear and goat cheese salads and adobo dishes.

The unique flavors of beer and the Texas Hill Country region where Hill Country Honey Blonde is brewed are represented in the tap and can design. A honeycomb sits above the tap handle calling for the honey used in the brew, and a cowboy hat, bee and wildflower are incorporated into the design of the box to represent the Hill Country.
