Matt Gacioch, new sustainability ambassador

The Brewers Association (BA) has announced that Matt Gacioch will take on the role of Sustainability Ambassador, replacing former Ambassador Ian Hughes. Gacioch will work with Quality Ambassador Neil Witte and Safety Ambassador Matt Stinchfield to bring attention to BA’s resources in their areas of expertise.

As Sustainability Ambassador, Gacioch will promote the BA Sustainability Sub-Committee’s mission to “help current members and future generations brew the highest quality beers in a way that enhances value of their businesses, increases the resilience of the natural environment and agricultural systems that provide brewing ingredients and improve the lives of our workforce and their communities.

“In the same way that the craft beer industry has reinvented the role of beer in society, it has an incredible opportunity to help reinvent the role of businesses by creating a positive impact,” Gacioch said. “It is a great honor to join the Brewers Association and its members to help create a new model for our common future! »

Gacioch has spent his career exploring the nuances and opportunities of sustainability within the craft beer industry, built environment and communities around the world. As former director of sustainability and marketing for Short’s Brewery in Michigan, he created programs and executed sustainable design initiatives on energy, water and waste, while striving to tell an authentic story of success and (many) road accidents. He has also worked in the field of sustainable development at Left Hand Brewery and in the Brewers Association’s Craft Beer program. He holds an MBA in strategy and finance, a master’s degree in environmental policy and planning, and a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, all from the University of Michigan. In his day job at stockan integrated real estate services company that provides sustainable design and engineering services, he explores business cases and strategizes for sustainability and well-being in commercial real estate.

In his role as ambassador, Gacioch will make presentations at state brewers guild meetings designed to help brewers achieve their sustainability goals. He will also support sustainability mentor John Stier to help BA members use BA benchmarking tools and identify simple, fast and sustainable ROI projects in their breweries.
