People and Places: Casita Brewing Company in Wilson

WILSON, NC (WNCT) — If you stroll along South Street in historic downtown Wilson, you’ll find something special brewing.

“For a long time downtown Wilson was off limits to a lot of people,” said Ryan Witter-Merithew, owner of Casita Brewing Company.

This is no longer the case, and Casita is one of the reasons.

“Now that we’re open, there are restaurants opening here, there are other things starting to develop here to make it a place where people come,” Witter-Merithew said.

Witter-Merithew and his wife, Wilson native Mahalia Breen, own Casita.

“In August 2020, we opened the doors to this place, right in the middle of the pandemic,” Breen said. “We opened without any furniture you could sit on in the dining room. And it’s been a crazy roller coaster ride ever since.

But this journey began many years ago.
