Take a look inside the new Pittsburgh Brewing Company facility

The 170,000 square foot facility originally contained the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, now PPG, in 1883. It is now in the final stages of a transformation into a state-of-the-art automated brewery. In 2009, the company moved production from its original location in Lawrenceville, outsourcing its brewing to a facility in Latrobe. This project completes a comeback for the makers of Iron City Beer, as they bring production back in-house, to this new home. That’s something most breweries our size never get back,” Zwicker said. The first batches of beer will arrive next month, with trials being considered to ensure the equipment is connected. The facility will begin with a capacity to brew 200,000 barrels of beer each year and eventually have the potential to produce 500,000 barrels.There are also plans for a restaurant, museum and brewery store, Zwicker said. that they plan There are plans to distill rye and bourbon whiskeys on site, but these products won’t be ready for sale for a few years. “To have this opportunity, with the venue and the equipment and the opportunities going forward, in my world, it’s a utopia,” Zwicker said.
